Parker/Snedeker Haunting
The Discovery Channel show, A Haunting in Connecticut used the family name the Parker's for privacy reasons, but the real families name is the
Snedeker's. The Discovery Channel didn't mention that they had changed the families name, but they apparently did because the stories are
identical. All of the first names were also changed, Paul's real name is Stephen, the mother's was Karen but her name is Carmen, the fathers name is
Al, and Teresa the cousins name is Tammy.

A Haunting In Connecticut ~ Parker/Snedeker home

The Snedeker family was from upstate New York and had to travel to Connecticut for cancer treatments for their son Stephen was diagnosed with
Hodgkin's. The traveling started to take it's toll so they decided to move near the hospital. They found a beautiful home in Southington right near the
hospital. Immediately after they moved in there were bad omens in the home. Some of these where shown on the Discovery Channel show like
while the mother was mopping the kitchen the water turned blood red. Al was unloading things into the basement when he discovered that the home
had been a funeral home. Al then asked Carmen if she knew this before they made the decision to rent the home, and she said no, so they decided
to not tell the children and hope for the best.

Stephen and his brother were given the downstairs for their bedroom, which is also next to the room where they used to prepare the bodies. Shortly
after moving in, Stephen started seeing shadows, hearing voices talking to him, and seeing a bearded man in a pin stripe suit. His brother also
experienced a couple strange occurrences, but nothing compared to Stephen. The daughter supposedly only saw the ghost once, in her room while
she was playing, but Steve and his younger brother saw the ghosts all the time in the morgue area, to the point of the sightings being nightly. The
boys could not sleep because people would walk around the morgue at night. They were the only ones that heard the demon, whatever you want to
call it calling Steven's name. Since the parents wouldn't believe the boys about the ghosts they tried to leave the room almost every night, until they
kept getting in trouble. Then they tried leaving the lights on every night, which seemed to work until the father got frustrated with them and removed
them.

Steven seemed to mentally change, and become very withdrawn even after he found out that his cancer was in remission. The family tried to bring
Steve out of his depression by bringing his cousin, Tammy to stay with them. Steve confided in her, because he couldn't talk to his parents. He told
her this demon talks to him all the time and would tell him to do bad things to his parents, and family. Stephen eventually became more and more
violent, even towards Tammy after she told his mother about what he had been telling her. Then his mother tried to bring him to counseling, and was
eventually diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Finally one night when he became very violent, they took Steve away to the hospitals mental ward. As they
were taking him out of the house Steve warned them that now that he was out of the house, the demon would be after them.

The parents were both in constant denial until the night that Stephen had to leave the home. The mother's explanation was that since Steven was so
close to death, he could sense that it once was a funeral home, and he just told his brother and sister stories which scared them, causing them to see
the same fears. Since the weak Stephen was gone, the demon entity than began to plague the rest of the family. At this point it would mostly harass
Carmen and Tammy.

Carmen started to notice that the crosses all over the house, that were left over from it's funeral home days, started to disappear. She didn't want to
believe that her son was crazy so she went down into the basement and sat their almost challenging the demon to show itself to her. She tried as
hard as she could to see the entity, but it just suddenly got extremely cold, and she could feel a strange presence but she never saw it. Her next
experience happened the next day while she was trying to take a shower when the curtain tried to smother her, and she was only able to escape
because Tammy heard her screams and was able to help her out.

Tammy and Carmen went to the dining room to talk about what was happening when it followed them there. This black shadow the took over the
room and crawled over the ceiling above them, and Tammy saw a black man in this shadow and they both felt thousands of hands all over their
bodies. Tammy was wearing her rosary beads, when it levitated off her chest and it broke and the beads bounced all over the dining room. In a
panic the woman called Al who was at work.

While all of this was happening in the home, the demon had also followed Al to work. It turned on his truck and drove it through a wall into his office
nearly killing him. Keep in mind he had the only set of keys which were on him at the time. Al told the woman what had happened to him, and not
knowing what to do the family called their priest for help. He blessed the home and listened to their story, and he said their best defense would
simply be to ignore it. For three days all phenomenon has stopped, and then it returned with vengeance. The clergy came back to the home and said
a mass, and again for three days the home was quiet and then all hell broke loose. It would get ice cold and then they knew something was going to
happen and someone would be attacked. It got to the point where someone would have to sit outside the bathroom door when someone would go.
They would hear and feel "fluttering" all over the floors like little feet running all over the floors. This became an every night occurrence. They didn't
understand how to ignore something that was trying to kill them and would attack them daily, so in August of 1988 they called the Warrens who
were known demonologists.

The Warrens who are from Monroe Connecticut went to the home to assist the family and were immediately drawn to the basement. Lorraine
Warren said it was a very bad infestation, and the spirit was not human that possessed the house, but was a demon. They said the only way to get
rid of it was for the Catholic church to do an exorcism on the house, which is rarely performed, and not many priests knew how to perform it. The
Warrens contacted John Zaffis, who had done research in the past for the Warrens. John was to come to the home to get documentation of the
haunting for the Catholic church before to investigate to be able to do the exorcism.

John Zaffis and a team moved into the house to get the documentation they needed for the family. They instructed the family all stay in the same
room basically forcing the demon to be seen. Now that Steve was gone, it had to find another individual. It chose Carmen. The demon possessed
her and she started to convulse and her neck swollen up. They were able to temporarily get rid of the demon by praying and placing blessed objects
on her. When she awoke hours later she had no recollection of the experience.

John was then singled out. John was sitting in the dining room when it went ice cold. He tried calling to the other researchers and family members but
no one responded as if they didn't hear him so he knew he was meant to see it alone. He walked into the hallway and looked up to the op of the
stairs. He then smelt something like rotting meat which was incredibly strong and unbearable. He then started to see something begin to form and
slowly move down the staircase. "It was the ugliest thing I had ever seen," described by John Zaffis. It descended the staircase until it reached to last
step and then it spoke to him, "do you know what they did to us, do you know?" This scared him enough to leave the house for three days. John
said, "I do not think I've ever encountered anything that has scared me as bad as that, I would not speak to anyone for days after the encounter, but
I did go back to work on the case." John seeing this gave them enough evidence for the Catholic church to investigate the presence.

Father Frank was then sent to the home. His report to the church would then determine whether the exorcism would be granted. An exorcism was
finally granted, and Father Richard and two other priests performed the exorcism. Father Richard cleansed the house by praying and using holy
water. By doing this he actually provoked the entity when he was down in the basement. The demon started pulling at his clothes, and this could
actually be seen by Carmen, and he felt overwhelming evil but he was able to ignore it and leave the basement. They held the actual exorcism
ceremony in one of the large rooms upstairs. The more they prayed, the more they provoked the presence. They had to struggle to ignore the
demon in order and finish the ceremony. The house was shaking, the dishes and pictures on the walls were rattling, there was banging inside the
walls. Then there was sudden quietness in the house. Then the smell of roses overtook the room, it was finally gone.

After all of this, the Snedeker's chose to leave the home because of all the bad experiences with their home. Stephen's cancer has not returned, and
that spring he was released from the hospital. The home has not had any problems with demons since the exorcism. The house is still there, but the
lady that now owns the home is a little weird (even her own family thinks so). She was going to let me go there and take pictures and metal detect
the grounds, but she changed her mind at the last moment. Hopefully she'll change her mind, again.

If you want further information on this haunting do not read the book: In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting by Ed and Lorraine
Warren, and Ray Garton. The author Ray Garton was told by Ed Warren himself to "make it up and make it scary." There are many details in the
book that are factious
