The ancient Celts believed that at midnight on October 31, the last day of their year, the god of death ordered back to his realm with the souls of
evil people who had died and been condemned to reside in the bodies of wild animals during the preceding twelve months. One of many beliefs
that has developed to our modern day All Hallows Eve.

A Dangerous Look
Anyone who has to leave his house on Halloween and walk for any distance should stare straight ahead, regardless of what he hears behind him
or on the side. If he turns to investigate, he may look directly into the face of an evil spirit. He will drop dead if he does, even if the spirit is invisible.

Evil Spirits Turned Into Crows As Punishment
Evil spirits who do not arrive at the designated meeting place by sunrise on All Saints' Day as they were ordered, are turned into crows by their
leader and forced to subsist on carrion until Judgment Day. Although it is impossible to kill any of these crows, they do not pose a threat to
mankind, for they do not have the power to hurt anyone.

Fending Off Evil Spirits
If you have to be outdoors after midnight on Halloween, carry a strong flashlight with you. Keep it lit until you are safely inside your house again,
for the spirits can perform their evil deeds only in complete darkness. A light of any kind destroys their powers.

Midnight Assembly
At midnight on Halloween, the evil spirits of every area assemble at a prearranged meeting place as soon as they hear the signal from their leader,
usually the long, drawn-out hoot of an owl. When they are all together, they are told where they will have to meet at dawn, and are then allowed to
anything they wish until then.

Raising An Apparition
If a girl who catches an apple playing this game eats it slowly while standing in front of a mirror at midnight on Halloween while she is alone, she
will see the apparition of her future husband in the mirror. If she turned around to see him in the flesh, the apparition will vanish as her chance to
marry him.

Sleeping With An Apple Under The Pillow
A girl who catches an apple with her teeth when she ducks for apples on Halloween will dream of her future husband if she sleeps with the apple
under her pillow that night.
